Life in Kununurra WA is going well,we have moved into the back yard of a house that is owned by the guy Shane is working for. It is a share house we live in our van & annexe outside ,2 guys-Greig & Matty ,both plasterers from Melbourne live in the house, plus whoever else is around that needs a bed.It is all going really well - I am the cook, everyone puts in for food, pitches in to clean up,and we all eat together-which works out great as I have people to cook for which I love & they all appreciate good home cooked meals,a win win situation! They are a great bunch of guys,it also saves us rent in the caravan park & we have a bit more space & privacy.
Kununurra is a great little spot ,we really like it-Surrounded by amazing rocks & ranges, Mirama National Park, El Questro, Gibb River Rd,rivers & gorges ,and so much more ,there is so much to see & do
Everyone is very friendly, lots of tourists & backpackers making their way to The Kimberley Broome & Darwin so it is a very transient & busy time of the year.In the wet ,apparently, it is a different story, very quiet in town-but they do say to experience a wet here is pretty spectacular with the amazing lightening strikes ,light shows, the amount of water, waterfalls & special little swimming holes that come with the wet,if you can handle the heat or humidity it is something worth doing. Not sure if it is for me...but all sounds magical(except the heat)but we would consider coming back here again to work in the dry, maybe for a longer period-now we have contacts to arrange work ,accomodation etc
Shane is enjoying working doing bits & pieces and building new homes here in the estate Lakeside & I am working massage out of town with another therapist ,Sarah- I work the mornings & she works the afternoon, all is going well so far.Sarah is off to Victoria to live the same time we leave, so clients are keen for me to stay as they need good therapists here, and the guys who Shane is working for are keen for him to stay on too,but we have to keep moving as it is getting hotter (around 35 degrees) & we also have the opportunity to work/live and experience life on Charnley River Station on the Gibb River Rd for 2 weeks ,which will be wonderful & also want to visit Cape Leveque ,north of Broome which sounds like a magical place right on the water ,snorkelling, swimming, fishing...ahhhhhhh.I sure miss having a swim, there are places here that you can swim (at own risk) but a lot of the river spots are closed due to crocodile sightings-to me it is just not worth the risk
On the weekend we visited Mirima National Park in Kununurra and the mini Bungle Bungles, the rock formations are incredible and the amazing view of the range around us.The magnificent colours and landscape around here is just beautiful. We also went to the Sandalwood Factory that has its own plantation here,Ivanhoe crossing, where we were entertained by some keen fellows (with a bit of help from some rumboes/alcohol fuelled nerves) riding over the crossing on pushbikes...Oh my God!Its a crazy life here in Kununurra :)
